The Media Blog Project 1

As this generation continues, the use of social media has become more and more popular. I’m sure whoever is reading this is familiar with the most recent dating app that tons of young adults are thriving over, known as Tinder. Tinder is a top chart dating app that people have been using all around the world. Basically what happens is you download the app, you enter in all your information, where you're from, etc. After you enter in all of that, you are matched up with many people around your area, and you have the ability to swipe ‘right,' or swipe left.’ If you swipe right, it means that you are interested in this person and you can continue to carry on a conversation, and see where it goes. If you swipe left, it simply means you are not interested.

The ‘swipe right’ has become a very popular saying in this generation. If you were to go around a college campus or an event that had seemed to have a good amount of people in their 20’s, I can guarantee that anyone would know what ‘swipe right’ means.

Delta, which is a worldwide airline has recently become apart of a partnership with Tinder and together, the two companies creating what the call ‘The Dating Wall’. This is a wall located in downtown Brooklyn, NY. The Dating Wall takes up 2 streets, it has a white base with drawings all around it, and on each block, it has pictures of 9 different beautiful destinations that you are able to travel to through Delta Air. In the middle of each wall, there is a big, black print bod statement stating “World Travelers Are More Likely To Swipe Right.” Right underneath that saying it states ‘until you take the trip, we’ll help you fake the trip.” The two companies put this wall design together so what local single people throughout the state of New York can take their selfies for they're dating profile on Tinder, with the impression that they are attractive jet-setters that fly all across the world.

In my opinion, this was a great way for BOTH companies to promote their businesses. If you're a local resident in the state of New York, this is an ad that you are going to see everyday. It’s funny, it's appealing to the eyes with its bold writing, and the pretty pictures. In this generation, taking selfies, writing hashtags and pictures are a very popular way to share with the world what you are doing through social media. Because of this wall, anytime someone takes a picture of it, they are publicizing both companies, which I think is brilliant. A major strength to the idea of this wall. A weakness may be although they are promoting, advertising their companies really well, with getting their names out with through pictures on a wall, I’m unsure as to how a dating app, and an airline are even remotely on the same level. What I mean by this is, well, as we all know a plane ticket is very expensive. It isn't something that most people can just buy day to day. So, while they are doing a great job by getting their name out,I don't know how well a wall is promoting their business as an airline. I would consider this as a memorable mainly because there isn't anything else like it! Its creative, fun, bright, and attracts many eyes on the streets of Brooklyn. I believe it effectively connected with the target audience of single people through out New York to stop, take a look a the wall, take pictures, and post the pictures throughout their social media promoting both companies.

I found an article written on Fox New’s website titled “Delta's 'dating wall' is helping people lie in their Tinder profile pictures.”

I chose to share this article because I had heard nothing but positive feedback about how awesome this wall was, until I came across this point of view. The author of this article, which name is not given, stated  “According to a press release, the idea is for Brooklynites to snap photos near the murals, upload them to they're dating profiles, and trick unsuspecting Tinder dates into thinking they’re more well-traveled than they actually are.” I think that  this statement is a little overboard, I don't believe that this wall was crated to falsely advertise people’s dating profile, but people can think however they want! Based on the ad, I think it was an extremely fun way to promote both companies. If I didn’t know anything about Tinder, it would make me want to download the app just to see what all the hype is about. Now, with Delta, this wall doesn't make me want to go travel the world, but I will most definitely take a picture and tag them!

With researching this wall, I learned that these two companies teamed together to promote each other with I think is really cool. I love seeing people pick each other up by doing good for each other. I never would have thought that a dating app and a famous airline would make good business partners but the world continues to surprise me.
